Marijuana Dealers Receive More Freedom

Less and less marijuana dealers are answerable to the law as the government made cannabis law enforcement more tolerant. Official statistics has revealed that the amount of trials on marijuana violations has decreased for 30 percent and the amount of arrested has witnessed a 60 percent decrease.

According to conservatives, these numbers show that the government is no more seriously concerned about marijuana issues.

Gordon Brown pleads for reconsidering the proposal to soothe marijuana law enforcement, and a paper on the drug abuse is soon to be appealed to the government.

In 2004 marijuana was given class C instead of class B, and law enforcement bodies gave up regularly seizing marijuana users at the streets but went on keeping a strong eye on marijuana dealers.

The maximal term of imprisonment for people arrested for distributing marijuana is still fourteen years. However, the amount of convicted who pass the trial for marijuana marketing has declined from about 3,000 in 2003 to nearly 2,000 in 2006.

The amount of those imprisoned for the issue has decreased from 697 to nearly 280.

The number of affairs brought to court is too small as opposite to the number of marijuana abuse cases. Over a million of citizens aged from 16 to 24 consume marijuana annually, as the statistics reveals, despite the fact their amount has decreased by 20 percent since marijuana law was softened.

According to official David Davis, the proposition to decriminalize marijuana is ambiguous. The decrease in the amount of violators being arrested for marijuana dealing and use only worsens the situation.
