Home / View News

In a range of arrests for marijuana violations W.J. Bonkowski III was seized upon drug charges. According to reporters, the defendant was employed in the sheriff's office for over 10 years and was a engaged as a teacher in Drug Abuse Resistance Education initiative.

One of the sheriff's department representatives stated that charges posed on the former co-worker are shocking.

According to Sheriff Kirk Wakefild, it's even offensive, and he took it to heart. Especially in view of the fact that the defendant used to work in his department and was in his order.

Bonkowski was employed as a county representative from September 1996 to December 2006. At first he worked as a patrolman and later changed to a full-time representative.

He was employed at school as well, when he worked as a representative. In course of the 2001-2004 period he numbered in elementary and primary schools, according to Joe Powers, administrator of the district.

The job presupposed supporting the DARE initiative, he stated.

Wakefield had nothing to say about the DARE initiative and Bonkowski's role in it.

Bonkowski is convicted in marijuana possession and attempts made for its distribution in Crawford County. If the charges are proved, he can get four years of imprisonment and be fined with $20,000.

The defendant paid $5,000 and was appointed to be present at the sentence hearing on March 19 in Grayling court. Bonkowski is not yet provided with a recorded attorney, and he hasn't shown up to the judge yet.

The defendant's arrest was permitted by David Sabin, a county prosecutor, but he has not called back for additional comments yet.
