Attorney's Plans Were the Reason to Postpone Pot Guilty Plea

Home / View News

A Maccan inhabitant, Ricky Simpson, claiming marijuana from his product can help in healing cancer, is to admit his guilt in a drug distribution affair, however, the admission is postponed for some time.

On Thursday Simpson had to plead guilty with relation to the conviction, but the hearing took place in his attorney's absence. The attorney, Duncan Beveridge, had to stay at place without the possibility to enter the court as he was getting ready for a hearing in Halifax.

Duncan Beveridge appealed to judges in written form to delay the solution of Mr. Simpson's drug distribution affair and stated his client would admit his guilt in course of the next hearing.

Crown attorney Monica McQueen accepted the appeal, and the judge determined March 17 for the next hearing to be held.

The last conviction was put forward by the local police in December 2007 when the defendant quitted the court in Amherst to get an arrangement for three violations he had been charged by the court in September 2007.

At the beginning of the month, Supreme Court Judge F. Cacchione charged the defendant with a fine sized $2,000 and one day of imprisonment, counted by his presence at the hearings, for the violation of marijuana law enforcement, i.e. cannabis distribution and possession.

The third conviction for having about 30 grams of pot in possession was delayed.

The convictions posed on the defendant were based on the result of a raid, processed by police in his place at Little Forks Road. It was discovered that the owner possessed around 1,200 marijuana plants, which were measured as 83,300 grams of the drug that is about 76 years of intake by a regular addict.

Judge Cacchione stated the defendant was really sure the product he created could potentially heal cancer. According to him, Mr Simpson, as opposite to other drug dealers who had been charged before, produced marijuana not for making money.
