Customs employers in Morocco have to prove their skills in an on-going war with drug dealers. Dealers who pass their goods through the northern bay are also skilled and aware that they won't go with just hiding the products under the trucks' floor, or even inside a volume with petrol, or in other unsafe places. They tend to discover more and more unusual positions for keeping marijuana carriage in secret from custom officers.
The statistics for 2007 shows that the number of marijuana smugglers seized is steadily increasing, that is, the customs service is going on with good results with relation to a constantly growing amount of dealers. In course of seizures the previous year, customs employees withheld nearly 35 tons of marijuana which is equal to 140 million euros of deal if distributed in European countries. The increase of smuggler seizures was by 25 percent higher than in 2006. Custom service employees also seized about 450 people, with other countries' citizens being half of their number. The most popular nation among smugglers was Spanish, than came French and Portuguese. However, the administrator of northern Morocco custom service states that violators are getting adapted to their tricks and use their flaws in sake of their business. According to him, their wit has always been a matter of surprise and wonder. Smugglers manage to trace the principle of custom service job to get along with the strategies.
Marzouki reports that recently one of the customs officers got success in discovering an entire range of marijuana packages, stored carefully under a welding to be kept from customs eyes in a car passing the border. There also was a practice of finding marijuana packed in vehicle batteries and even in car tyres. There was a case when a violator tried to conceal the contraband in form of olives, dyeing the drugs in green. |
