Medical marijuana pharmacies blocked in Seal Beach

Seal Beach residents balloted against medical pot pharmacies, despite the fact that pot sale is allowed by the government if a patient has a prescription from his/her healthcare provider.

The prohibition came into force on Monday. Orange County has eight more towns where marijuana sale is prohibited.

Another city, Laguna Woods, recently passed a law permitting the dispensaries. However, Laguna Woods' residents were positive about using marijuana for medical aims.

Medical pot was allowed for use in California by its residents in 1996 according to Proposition 215. However, the government has not put any restrictions to its distribution, so some towns and cities restricted medical marijuana sales.

Marijuana is still prohibited for use for any purposes by the federal law.
